"And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. . . And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him." (LUKE 2:7 & 40 NKJV)
Beginning the month of November and especially December in many places you go, you might see Christmas decorations with nativity scenes. Some churches might even have what they call a "live" nativity scene complete with camels, sheep, donkeys, a man and a woman dressed, supposedly, as Joseph and Mary and a baby or a doll, again, portraying Jesus. Many songs are written and sung about the baby born in Bethlehem. There are those who don't even honor Jesus as Savior and Lord who celebrate His birth in one way or another.
Yet, we must remember that what makes Christmas worth celebrating is not that a baby was born, but that "the child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him." The reason why we rejoice is not merely for a babe in a manger, but the savior, who is Christ the Lord, the Son of God, who died for our sins. Too often we forget that it was not His birth that saved us and won our victory. It was His death, burial and resurrection that brought our redemption and justification.
As you go through the Christmas season do not forget that if it had not been for His sacrifice on Calvary for our sins, there would be nothing to celebrate of His birth. For we all would be lost. Our celebration of Christmas is about NOT JUST A BABY, BUT A SAVIOR.
