LOOK BEYOND THE HILLS

"I will lift up my eyes to the hills — From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth." (Psalm 121:1&2, NKJV)

PONDER THIS!

Psalm One Hundred Twenty-One is one of the most often quoted but misinterpreted Psalms there is. We often hear people, in there attempt to comfort and encourage others, declare to them, "Just look to the hills from whence comes your help." Yet, to really understand what the Psalmist is saying, we must interpret this verse correctly.

In the Hebrew text the Psalmist is actually asking a series of questions. First, "Do I have to lift up my eyes to the hills?" Second, "From where does my help come from?" Followed by the answer, "My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth." You see, during the time of the writing of this Psalm, the Psalmist lived amongst pagan nations that worshiped the sun, moon, stars, hills and the mountains. The Psalmist is actually saying, "I do not have to lift up my eyes to worship the hills, the mountains and the celestial bodies. My help comes from the God who made the hills, the mountains and all the universe."

Today I want to encourage you to look beyond the hills, mountains and everything that is tangible. Seek the one who made all that is made. Too many people live their lives looking at their horoscope every morning or going to some star reader to determine what they should do and even who they should marry. Your answer is not in the stars or the position of the planets. Seek the one who made everything that is made. Seek Him when you are in need and seek Him just to be close to Him. He is your help in time of trouble and your protection from every form of trouble. Seek Him above all else.

1. Who or what do you look to for help in your times of trouble?

2. What and from where does your source of aid and provision come from?

3. Is the God who made heaven and earth the first and only source of your help?

You cannot live your life checking an astrological sign. Your destiny is not determined by your horoscope. Your help and your guidance come from the Lord. Always LOOK BEYOND THE HILLS!
