“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:14, NKJV)
Jesus speaks these words of empowerment and encouragement to a multitude of, what most would consider, just plan, ordinary people. This was not the elite, well-to-do, socialite crowd. These were just ordinary, many poor, destitute, average and even socially below average, individuals. It is to this crowd that Jesus says, “You are the light of the world . . .”
Jesus is saying the same thing to you today. No matter what social, economic, emotional or intellectual state you might be in, “You are the light of the world.” In other words, IT IS YOUR TIME TO SHINE.
You see, as light brightens a room, your life can brighten someone’s day. Just a simple smile, a kind word, a helping hand, or an encouraging word, will bring a little light into someone else's life. As light gives a since of security, someone, through your life, can be made to feel secure that they have a true friend, a confidant, somebody they can trust. As light gives warmth, someone, in the midst of the coldness of this world, can feel the warmth of love, affection and true concern that you give. You are the light of the world.
