“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.”
( I Samuel 30:6, NKJV)
The scripture here gives us the account of how David’s men went out to fight against one enemy, and another enemy, the Amalekites, invaded David’s camp and kidnapped the wives and children of David’s soldiers. When David and his men returned home, they found their belongings stolen and their families taken. The men, in their despair, sought to vent their anger on their leader, David. David then realized that he could only, at that time, rely on himself and his God and he “encouraged Himself in the Lord his God.”
You know, there are times when everyone around you are dealing with their own problems and concerns in life. You might go to someone for encouragement and find they are in a worse state than you. In these times, you must learn to encourage yourself and not wait for someone else's words of encouragement.
There will be times when there will not be anyone who will applaud you, thank you for what you have done or even seem to appreciate you. Many times God will call you to make decisions that others will not understand and will even criticize. These are the times when you must remember who you are and why you do what you do. Family, friends, co-workers and even church members might be caught up in their own struggles or just might not understand what you do. In these times do not fret, fear or give up. Lean on what you know God has spoken to you and simply ENCOURAGE YOURSELF IN THE LORD.
