"Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart." (Psalm 37:4)
This is one of my favorite scriptures. It is one of my favorites because it reminds me to stay focus on what is really important, loving and pleasing the Lord. Too often when we come to God, we spend most of our prayer time asking for the things we want or what we want God to do for us. Praise God, we are encouraged to ask God for what we want. Throughout the Bible there are verses that tell us to ask our Heavenly Father for anything we want. Yet, the Psalmist wants us to focus on what is really important. The most important thing is to love and "delight" ourselves in “the Lord.” Not delight ourselves in what the Lord can do for us.
If the only time someone called you is when he or she needed something from you, how would that make you feel? You want those who say they love you to love you for who you are, not what you can do for them. God is the same. He wants us to love Him for who He is. Not for what He does or can do for us.
Love the Lord.Adore Him.Bless His name for who He is.Enjoy all the blessings He bestows on you.Thank Him for all He does.Yet, make sure you stay focused on what is really important and DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD.
